The JK and SK classes walked to the park for the first time today! We discussed the safety rules of traveling to and from the park with the children at Morning Meeting:
1. Hold hands with a partner (either a peer or a teacher)
2. Always walk
3. A teacher is the "engine" and the "caboose"
4. Wait for the teacher with the stop sign to give the signal to cross the street
While we await the final touches to be made to the park so that we can fully utilize the space, the children were able to run and play on the grassy oval. It was a glorious day to be outside!

This was also our first day to dramatize a story. We read the book Caps for Sale by Slobodkina prior to nap, and made it “come to life” during Story Time. The children chose whether they wanted to take on the role of a monkey or a peddler, and Ms. Bell took on the role of narrator. This form of classroom theater allows the children to internalize a story through all of their senses, express emotions other than their own, and use their imaginations to turn a post into a tree or transform themselves into a monkey Story dramatization will be a regular part of our curriculum, and in the future we will capture some of these wonderful moments on video to share with you. |
